The night started with the hosts,Adesua Etomi and Falz the Bahd guy who did a good job hosting the music event that held at Eko Convention Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.
It seems the recession in the country caught up with the awards on the night as there was no headlining sponsors.I don't know if that was the reason why the picture and audio quality for those watching at home was so poor.There were many complaints on social media about the sound and audio quality not being the best.This is unusual as the show has always been know to offer the best of
everything.Maybe it was the finance indeed.If so,Ah beg,Buhari,quickly sort out the economy o!
Like i said earlier ,there were notable absents on the night.The biggest were Olamide,Don Jazzy,Tiwa Savage,Korede Bello,Reekado Banks.I understand why the Mavin crew were missing.The had a big show outside the country.
Their non show did not look good,as they won a few gongs that had to be collected by others.
Olamide probably had a big show as well.I think 3 days to christmas is a wrong time to hold the show cos that is the busiest time for artists.Will you give up millions of Naira just to collect a headies award in this time of recession?I don't think so!😄😄😄😄😄😄
Kiss Daniel,who was a big winner on the night with 3 gongs was missing when it came to collect his trophies,so was Simi for best vocal performance.Patoranking who won the Best Reggae/Dancehall single was missing.Like i said,all these guys will be booked at this time of the year,it really is bad timing in my opinion.
Another important highlight was Harrysongs and Kcee together accepting an award on stage for a song they collaborated on.Kcee said,even though they had issues,they will settle it indoors.That was nice to hear.For those of you who don't know,he was referring to Harrysong leaving 5star music under controversial circumstances.He said his contract was up,they said it isn't.
My favourite artist for the year,Wizkid, won the Artist of the Year.Anybody else would have been a travesty in my opinion.I love me some Baba Nla won.

One of the acts missing from the list though is the very talented Tekno.Now ,in my opinion,he is the only one who can challenge Wizzie for artist of the year.Sadly Tekno was nowhere to be found on the headies 2016 awards list because of what the organizers called timing issues.He was however nominated for the "next rated" which he was not happy with understandably.How can you nominate an artist who has been having hits for years as the next rated?Not good at all.
He famously gave the organizers a piece of his mind on social media when he posted-
“Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”.
He was subsequently withdrawn from the category by the organizers.
Mr Eazi,the Ghanaian based Nigerian singer who is having an amazing year in Africa,Europe and all over the world,won the award instead.
Performances on the night were good on the whole actually.Daddy Showkey one of the old timers gave a good show with his dancers.It seems we had a lot of old timers in the house as Tony Tetuila, Eddy Montana and Eedris Abdulkareem of the Remedies also put on a good spectacle.Jazzman Olofin and Adewale Ayuba represented as well and it was yet more old timers as Ras kimono and a younger Aramide entertained the crowd.
On a more entertaining tip,Caesar the finace of Eva Alordiah,had a night he will never forget.Poor thing.Wizkid while walking to his seat,spotted Eva and reached out to give her a hug,Caesar who sat next to her thought Wizzie was reaching out to him,he then got up and stretched his arms to hug Wizzie,who walked past hi and hugged his girl instead.Oh My God!
