I cannot understand the hypocrisy going on regarding the Vanessa Williams Miss America apology.
The Miss America pageant offered a formal apology to Vanessa Williams, the first black winner of the contest, 32 years after she was forced to resign. The actress was crowned Miss America in 1983 and stripped of her title 10 months later when nude images taken before she entered the competition were published by Penthouse magazine.
Why exactly are they apologizing? Ok,Vanessa Williams was stripped of the Miss America title and that was tough. But this was expected. She scandalized the pageant! You can't have a Miss America with pictures of her nude and doing very erotic stuff like she did with another woman getting intimate
with her in the Penthouse Magazine pictures and say, oh that's okay! Vanessa Williams will probably get a medal today, thanks to the likes of Kim Kardashian and her family who have made it hip to take your clothes off! Now when you take off your clothes, it's like you won an Oscar for an incredible acting performance!
But this was 1983,there were rules, and there was still some decency in society then.Vanessa Williams brought the Miss America pageant into disrepute and had to pay for it! She had to go and had to lose the crown! And if Vanessa Williams had any decency or shame, she would have turned that that kiss ass appearance and let bygones be bygones! What Vanessa should have said was,i was unfortunate to have done something i regretted while and young and deserved to lose the Miss America title! Where is honesty nowadays? Does Vanessa Williams truly believe in her heart that she deserves an apology? For What? For posing nude and engaging in lewd acts in an adult magazine while going for the Miss America pageant?
Vanessa Williams regrets what she did and must rue the day she posed for Penthouse Magazine.
During the nationally televised Miss America pageant held on Sunday, September 13, the executive chairman of the pageant, Sam Haskell welcomed Williams to the stage and apologised on behalf of the pageant for the way his predecessors treated her.
"Though none of us currently in the organisation were involved then, on behalf of today's organisation I want to apologize to you and to your mother, Ms. Helen Williams. I want to apologize for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be." Haskell said.Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, Vanessa Williams thanked the public for supporting her when she resigned as Miss America and all through her career.
"I want to thank everyone who has come up to me over the past 32 years and said, 'You'll always be my Miss America. I got a chance to be on the stage and represent what I represented back in 1983. Thank you so much for being so welcoming to me."The bottom line is no one made Vanessa Williams feel less a Miss America. She did that to herself that day she decided to take off her clothes, pose for Penthouse Magazine performing lewd acts with another woman!
