Fashola twins is a story that has captivated the nation.Did the upright people's governor playa way from home?
These are really tough times to be ex governor of Lagos state,Babatunde Fashola. The man who was widely acclaimed as many peoples favourite Nigerian governor has suddenly had his morals and political integrity questioned with details of alleged corruption and alleged extra
marital affair surfacing one after the other.
Abiodun Mcgregor, the top Lagos State civil servant who was alleged to have a set of twins for the former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), has refused to comment on Fashola’s statement that he does not have any biological children other than his two children (by Dame Abimbola Fashola).
Fashola, in his reaction to allegation of fraud regarding the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com said, “In so far as the allegations of paternity are concerned, they are wicked and false. I have no biological children other than my two children.”
ENCOMIUM Weekly had called Ms. Abiodun Mcgregor, the mother of the set of twins that are alleged to be fathered by the former governor to react to this statement. We called her on Friday, August 14, 2015, at 22.19 p.m. She did not pick our call. Another call was put through to her on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 11.00 a.m, she did not pick it.
The third call to her was on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at 20.30 and 20.31 p.m. all to no avail.
Ms. Mcgregor did not also respond to our text of Friday, August 14, 2015, at 12.24 p.m in which we wrote inter alia: “Greetings madam. We will appreciate your quick response ma, to the statement of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, the former governor of Lagos State that he is not the father of your twins. Thanks ma, ENCOMIUM Weekly.”
Mr. Fashola’s statement of Thursday, August 13, 2015 and Ms. Mcgregor’s silence has certainly opened another vista on the paternity of Ms. Mcgregor’s twins. The questions are, could it be that Fashola has done a DNA test and discovered that those twins are actually not his? Could it also be that Ms. Mcgregor used the twins to get undue advantage in the civil service? Could it also be that the former governor denied the twins to save his name and political career?
So many questions that only Ms. Abiodun Mcgregor’s comment or reaction could answer. But since she has chosen to remain silent for now, the answers to these questions will remain in the realm of conjectures and guesses.
One thing that, however, go away for Ms. Mcgregor’s colleagues in the civil service is the suspicion that she had a rollicking romantic affair with Fashola right from the time he was the Chief of Staff to former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu till he left as the governor of the state.
It is also very clear to them that Ms. Mcgregor had a set of twins and told some of her colleagues some things that indicated that the former governor is responsible for these kids. Her posting to some choice positions within the service also indicated to many of them that she had a powerful force behind her.
ENCOMIUM Weekly published in the Tuesday, June 30, 2015 edition of how Ms. Mcgregor was posted to Lagos Metropolitan Development and Governance Project (LMDGP), a World Bank sponsored project as the Head Capacity Building to displace one Mr.Tijani.
We also wrote how she was moved from LMDGP at the expiration of the contract of the agency with the World Bank to Lagos Works Bureau, Ojodu, as the Administrative Secretary of the agency.
As we wrote then that she would soon be removed by Ambode’s tsunami that is sweeping away all traces of the former governor, she too has been redeployed from the Lagos Works Bureau back to Public Service Office (PSO), Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
ENCOMIUM Weekly again wrote that the tale of another woman having children for the former governor started even before his father died in August 2013. The rumour then in social circles was how the former governor informed his father about the twins and the father was looking for ways to inform his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola.
The governor’s father, we gathered, called his eldest child, Mrs. Arinola Fuwa, to inform Dame Fashola about the twins. The eldest child refused on the ground that she did not want to spoil her good relationship and respect Dame Abimbola had for her. We gathered the father, who was sick had to summon courage to personally inform Dame Abimbola Fashola, himself. So, the issue of someone having children for the former governor has been on years before he left office.
What most people didn’t know immediately was who the mother of the twins was which they got to know later.
