OKADA IN lagos.
I'm not sure where i stand on this Okada matter. On one hand, passengers are prone to accident when you ride on them, causing various accidents. On the other hand, they help to ease traffic and get unemployed men of the streets. If they are taken off the streets, more traffic problems for Lagos citizens, but the one that worries me the most is what those men are going to do for work. How are they going to feed their families? And we all know a
hungry man is a desperate man,and desperate men do desperate things. This is where robbery and all sorts of crimes comes in.
The Lagos State Police Command has said commercial motorcycle riders popularly called okada plying restricted routes in the state should be ready for a tough time beginning from this week.
The command said with the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued to the commercial bike riders by the state government, it would now commence strict enforcement of the ban on their activities in the restricted routes.
But then again, maybe the government are trying to find a compromise by restricting them to certain routes.I don't know what the restrictions are so it's hard to give an opinion. But if they are left with very little space to ply their trade,we now have the problem of over congestion.
Personally i think they should find way to regulate and control these Okada riders.Whether we like it or not, they have become part of the furniture in Lagos state and Nigeria.I think it's too easy to say ban them. It's not the solution in my opinion.Find a way to make them safer on our roads..or better still find these men jobs!
