Nigeria police broke.Like they would say in Nigeria,Na Today? This should not be a surprise to any Nigerians. How many times have we heard the Nigeria police cannot answer a distress call because there is no fuel in the vans? Have you seen the state of some of our police?Have you driven past or walked past a Police quarters or Police station? Police college nko?
Yet the sad thing is,you hear the budget and they dedicate billions to security, where is the
money?Now we can't even recruit,what good is a force that can't recruit?
Recruitment into the Nigerian police force may have been stopped over lack of funds, The Punch newspaper has reported.
The force, with a total of 400,000 policemen and policewomen last recruited into the police in 2011 and despite attempts by the former police boss, Mohammed Abubakar, in 2014 to recruit 30,000 personnel, the government only approved 10,000 men into the force and no money was released for the exercise until the general election was concluded.

The NPF had proposed N329,669,237,019 in the 2015 budget, comprising N306,773,439,285 for personnel and N5,895,797,734 for overheads while it had a total budget allocation of N292.35bn.
“With the increasing rate of crime in the country, we need more policemen, but we have not been able to recruit because of paucity of funds,” a top police officer stressed.
It was also reported that the force has resorted to borrowing money from commercial banks since October, 2014, to pay the salaries of its personnel, and just before the 2015 elections the Police Management Team reportedly obtained a bank loan to avert a mutiny from police personnel following a complaints about the non-payment of promotion arrears and other emoluments by some officers.

“The banks have not given us any borrowing limit, so we will continue to borrow until our financial situation improves. The banks are happy to give us the money because it suits their business interests. They know that they won’t lose their money, so they encourage us to get loan facilities to meet our obligations. You know the police cannot afford not to pay its personnel,” the source added.
Contractors of the police force might also not be paid as another source told the paper that the force does not have any extra money with which to pay its debts, stressing that the Police High Command was only focused on settling salaries for now.

“The NPF is maximizing the funds available to it. The last time we recruited was two years ago when we engaged specialists, but I believe we will soon recruit more personnel,” he stated.
In response to the report that police detectives had been demanding money from complainants to investigate criminal cases, the force spokesman said it was illegal for any policeman to demand money to investigate complaints.
