Mitchelle Blair gets Life Imprisonment!
A Detroit mom who tortured two of her children to death and stashed their bodies in her freezer has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.
Last month, Mitchelle Blair, 36, pleaded guilty to murdering 13-year-old Stoni Blair and 9-year-old Stephen Berry, whose bodies were found in March. She brazenly told the court at
the time, "I don't feel no remorse for the death of them demons," and she said that if she were given the chance to do it all over again, she would.
On Friday, Blair's lawyer called the incident "an unfortunate situation," according to WXYZ. "Ms. Blair has made her statement," defense attorney Wyatt Harris said. "She is accepting responsibility for her actions." Blair says she killed the two children because they were abusing her younger child. But she admits she never saw any of the alleged abuse take place.
At her sentencing Friday, Blair said she knows that everyone thinks she's a monster – and she's okay with that. "As horrendous as everybody thinks I am, that's fine," she said, the Associated Press reports. "They will never experience life without fearing their mother," Judge Dana Hathaway told Blair. "You imposed the death penalty on your own children." In June, Blair detailed the horrific abuse that her children suffered at her hands, saying she definitely meant to kill her daughter Stoni and describing how she viciously beat her over the head until she died.
Her son Stephen's death, however, was unintentional, she said, though she admits that her actions led to him dying. "His skin came off," she said, describing how she burned him with hot water on his genitals. "If I had killed Stephen intentionally I definitely would be proud to say I did, but I didn't," she added. Blair also admitted to kicking him, punching him, forcing him to drink Windex and lifting him with a belt wrapped around his neck.
