Linus Okorie asks Buhari to be fair with his probe of Goodluck Jonathan.
Linus Okorie, a member of House of Representatives, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to be fair with the probe of his predecessor Goodluck Jonathan.
He noted that ‘what goes around comes around,’ continuing that if the incumbent president decides to be biased, he should expect the same treatment when he leaves office.
These are the kind of warped people that have enabled Nigeria to be where it is today! What
he is saying in essence is leave GEJ alone, cos they are all thieves! Who cares if Buhari is probed tomorrow? Let him be probed when his time comes and if he is guilty ,he will face the law as well.I cannot understand the way Nigeerians think. We really do deserve all we get. When you wanna probe corrupt leaders, people call it witch hunting! What is witch hunting? Are they guilty? If they are,it cannot be witch hunting.
President Buhari, Okorie stressed, lacked acknowledgement of ex-president’s legacies and achievements in the last dispensation.
He called on Nigerian leader to acknowledge the contributions of Jonathan particularly in the fight against Boko Haram sect in the North East.
Okorie said: “Just like the opposition must be constructive in criticizing the government in power, the sitting government owes its predecessor, itself and the wider Nigerian public the moral and social duty of acknowledging the positive accomplishments of their predecessors.”
He also lamented that the president has been all over the media celebrating Nigeria’s one year polio free anniversary without any reference to his predecessor and his policy team that entirely achieved the celebration.
“The Jonathan administration introduced cutting edge anti-corruption technology-based Public Finance management tools including IPPIS, GIFMIS and TSA, which the present government is now laying claim to for ghost workers elimination, funds accountability and transparency monitoring, without giving credit appropriately.
“The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) has also announced that the Abuja rail project, conceived and implemented by the Jonathan administration is 67 percent completed. This credit should also be formally attributed to the past government.
“I hold the view that the Buhari administration should imbibe the necessary humility and courage to give credit as necessary even as it continues to put the out-gone government to task in established areas of weakness or malfeasance. That is leadership. I also appeal to the media as social engineers to also encourage the Presidency in this onerous responsibility. We owe posterity that much,” the lawmaker underlined.
The ruling All Progressives Congress has just recently said that the probe of ex-president is a must because of Jonathan’s involvement in corruption schemes.
