President Buhari and the controversy of his assets declaration. |
The controversy of President Buhari's Assets declaration.
President Buhari has only been in power for 4 days and already the controversy has started. What is the controversy i hear you ask? Well,it is regarding the assets declaration.Buhari and his vice president,Yemi Osinbajo declared their assets as they promised, but not publicly. Now some Nigerians or say PDP supporters are rightly asking why not declare it publicly as promised? Why declare it in one quarter and hold back?
Aides of President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, answered explaining, why the president
did not declare his assets publicly. They said he will make his assets known to Nigerians within the first 100 days of his stay in power in line with his assertions before the election. This was what Buhari had said during election he will do,declare them within his first 100 days in office. So why not declare them now since he has already declared them to the code of conduct bureau?
Another answer to that is because apparently, the code of conduct bureau have to authenticate what the President and his vice declared.Once they do that, they will release the details publicly.
It was said it took 30 days after late President Yar Adua declared his assets for it to be made public by the code of conduct bureau, and this is what is happening with Buhari as well.
So the question is,Buhari promised to declare his assets publicly in his first 100 days,is 100 days too long for Nigerians to wait? Some are saying it is enough time for Buhari and Osinbajo to loot.Personally i don't think so,if Buhari did not loot in his 30,40,and 50s,why would he loot as a man in his 70s? Makes no sense to me at all...If Buhari had stolen any money in the past,he has not spent it..he just hid it somehwere, another thing that does not make sense...Of all the men who have ruled Nigeria since the military took over, two men stand out for me with their modest life styles,Buhari and Yar Adua,
We might have to wait for 100 days or less, then we shall see if Buhari and Osinbajo declare their assets as promised....
