A man has attacked four policemen with a hatchet in New York on thursday hitting one in the head and the other in the arm.The police officer who was hit in the head is in a critical state in
hospital, while the other policeman who was hit in the arm is expected to be released soon.The policemen were casually taken pictures with some people when the attacker,Thompson, who had been hiding behind a bus shelter ,was seen in this video as he pounced and attacked the policemen.
The other two policemen who were not attacked then drew their weapons,shot and killed the attacker who has been identified as Zale H Thompson.It was also discovered that Thompson who had a criminal record in California and had been discharged from the Navy for misconduct, according to the source.
Also it has been reported that the police are deeply concerned about the attacker,Zale H Thompson's motive,because Thompson's facebook page had suggested he might have ties or beliefs linked to the Islamic extremism.
As a result of this and also the recent happening in Ottawa,Canada when a gun man burst into the house of parliament and also killed a police officer,New York policemen have been told to pay extra attention to their situational awareness in order to avoid attacks like these.
It was also said attacks like these,carried out by Zale Thompson,which are lone attacks,are very hard to predict and very easy to carry out.It takes no planning,all it takes is one mad man who randomly picks up a weapon and attacks an unsuspecting officer or citizen.
