Yeee! Nigeria Govt in absurd plan to ban Ponmo Meat!
Take a Nigerian's Ponmo away and you dey look for trouble!
Federal government of Nigeria to ban Ponmo? or Kponmo like some people will spell it,i hate all those spelling with K's preempting them, but that's for another day.
So according to news reaching me,the Federal Government of Nigeria may take steps to ban
"Ponmo" which is a favourite delicacy for a lot of Nigerians. The government says it is doing this to enable livestock farmers stand good chances of making high dollar return if the hides and skins are tanned into leather.
Does that sound stupid or i'm i just slow? I wouldn't mind so much if it was said it had been confirmed through research that Ponmo was affecting the health of many Nigerians for the worse and it would be better to do away with it..but saying it is doing this to enable livestock farmers stand good chances of making high dollar return if the hides and skins are tanned into leather, well that takes the biscuit in my opinion. But rest assured, even though i have not tasted Ponmo for well over 25 years now,it is not gonna happen! All those men in senate who are gonna pass the laws won't let it be,and you know why? Cos all those fat men love their Ponmo! Lol..you only have to take a look at their waist line.A Nigerian man without his Ponmo meat and "Orisirisi" delicacies? Won't happen!
This information emerged on Tuesday when the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product.
He said this at the 3rd joint anniversary of Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) and Nigeria Institute of Animal Science held at the University of Ibadan.
The minister said,

”I also commend NIAS for its advocacy and public enlightenment programs on Radio and Television that promote value addition in Livestock, as against sale and consumption of primary products alone, particularly with the issue of curtailing the widespread consumption of hides and skins as Kpomo which ought to be tanned into leather for a very high dollar return to the farmer and Tanneries.

I expect that competent regulations acceptable by all stakeholders will be developed so as to give credibility that our set standards for food safety are being implemented which will boost value addition.”
I just checked the month and we are indeed in September and  not April, but this is one project that won't take off.I see all the local "Bukas" going to their native doctors now to bewitch the minister so he changes his mind about their dear Ponmo .
