Hmmm different strokes for different folks,the Hunters Association of Nigeria are not happy that the government has told "Nigerian people to stop consuming bush meat cos of the Ebola Virus" scare.
They want the government to stop telling Nigerians not to consume bush meat because it has affected their business drastically in the last few days and its also driving its members into unemployment.The association made this known while addressing journalists in Lagos during a conference held with journalists to address the situation.
The President of the group, Chief Ishola Olasehinde while speaking at the conference said;
“We want to use this medium to tell the government that our businesses have been affected since they have informed people to stop consuming bush meat to prevent Ebola. This is our only means of sustenance. Even if there is any virus in these animals, once they are boiled and fried, it gets killed. Government should include hunters in their research if they really want to prove that bush meat causes Ebola.
We hunters are the ones who protect the country’s borders from being invaded by nomads from Mali and Lake Chad. If not for our activities in the forest, Boko Haram members would have taken control of many cities in the country. This is not the way the government should reward us,” he said.
So these hunters think they can stop Boko Haram with their bush meat guns?Their "Shakabula" guns?(locally made riffles) This guys don't know anything,i hope they never have the misfortune of encountering Boko Haram,cos they will be the bush meat! The hunter shall become the game.As per boiling the meat and killing the virus,hmmm i'm not sure of that,but personally i don't think this Ebola is something that can so easily be eradicated.
Lets assume If that is the case,how about when the consumers are preparing and cooking the meat? Don't they realise it will be so easy to be infected at that moment? With all the blood,cutting,cooking and using of utensils?
These hunters should chill for now till we all know what we are fighting against.I understand they need to eat and stuff,but at the detriment of the society?Lives being lost? Even theirs and their families?
Put those riffles away for now ..i beg..biko.
