Bartosz Bereszynski, has cost his team big time! |
they did lodge a protest indeed,a big shame on them!
Legia Warsaw had fielded Bartosz Bereszynski, who came on as an 86th-minute substitute as Legia won 2-0 at Murrayfield on Wednesday night.
The full-back was sent off for violent conduct against Apollon in the final match of Legia's Europa League campaign last season and missed both of Legia's matches against St Patrick's in the second qualifying round and sat out the 4-1 first-leg victory over Celtic.
But the investigation apparently centred around whether the player was registered in Legia's squad against the Irish side in order to allow a three-match suspension to take effect.
A statement on Legia's official website read: "The club announces that in connection with the Celtic FC-Legia Warsaw match in the second leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Uefa opened an investigation into the participation of Bartosz Bereszynski.
"The club is preparing the relevant information and explanations, which will be sent to Uefa today (Thursday).
"The result of the investigation will be announced immediately after its completion."
Well that investigation apparently is now over and Celtic have been given a reprieve and have been reinstated in the UEFA Champions league while Warsaw have been relegated to the Europa League.
Champions League regulations state that players must be registered with Uefa within requested deadlines and that "only eligible players can serve pending suspensions".
This was clearly a misunderstanding and mistake on Legia Warsaw's part, but should they have been punished so severely for a player who came on 3 minutes to the end of the match? He had no impact on the result of the match.
Uefa 's disciplinary regulations decree that a match may be declared a forfeit if an ineligible player participates, "as long as the opposing team files a protest".
The team forfeiting the match is deemed to have lost 3-0, which would put Celtic through on the away goals rule.
If Celtic have truly filed a protest as the rules suggested ,they should be ashamed and bury their heads in the sands. This was not a match where your opponents tried to cheat you out of a result, they were clearly and deservedly well beaten! Celtic should have demonstrated the fair play which the Scots are famous for and let this matter go.It would have done their image a great deal and go on to further reinstate fair play in football. But this action of Celtic is no worse than a player who dives blatantly or who cons a referee.Celtic have really gone down in my estimation with this behaviour and should truly be ashamed. The UEFA law clearly states that the match will be declared a forfeit as long as the opposing team files a protest,so Celtic must have done so.
Money has totally turned the game i love into a blood sucking conscience free sports. There are no morals and how are we supposed to show example to the kids and the next generation?
If there is a god of football,Celtic should truly be stuffed in the next round! I can never look at that team with the same eyes again, they really should be ashamed of their actions.
I am sure if Legia Warsaw had been Chelsea,Manchester United,Real Madrid or Barcelona, those clown at UEFA would have found a way to turn this around.Clowns and cheats..and you know very well who is which!
Celtic don't deserve to be in the next round and should not be.And every true "Celtic fan" knows this!
