- WBA Signs Nigerian striker Brown Ideye
West Bromwich Albion have broken their transfer record with the £10m signing of Nigeria and Dynamo Kyiv striker Brown Ideye on a three-year deal with a years extra option in the clubs favour.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Ideye held talks with the Baggies this morning before
undergoing a medical at the Black Country club.
They announced the signing through the club's Twitter and Facebook accounts after Ideye posted a photo with himself and the number nine shirt.
Baggies head coach Alan Irvine said: “Brown Ideye is a quality striker and I am looking forward to working with him".
“He is a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.”
The Nigerian striker Ideye, signed for Ukrainian club Kyiv in 2011 and has scored 33 goals in 73 league games. He has also played for Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax and French side Sochaux.
The 25-year-old Ideye has earned 23 caps for Nigeria, scoring five goals for his country. He was part of the winning African Cup of Nations squad in 2013 and played in the 2013 Confederations Cup. However, he missed out on a place in Stephen Keshi's squad at the 2014 World Cup.
The former record transfer at West Brom is the £6m signing of Stephane Sessegnon from Sunderland on transfer deadline day last year.
Ideye will be the third striker on Albion books, joining Saido Berahino and fellow Nigerian international Victor Anichebe, following the end of loan spells for Matej Vydra and Thievy Bifouma.
This is West Brom's fifth transfer of the summer as Irvine looks to improve the current squad.
