Cathay Pacific voted the World's best Airline 

Cathay Pacific was named the world's best airline at an awards ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow Tuesday. The Hong Kong-based firm claimed the World Airline Awards title from last year's winner Emirates. It was Cathay Pacific's first victory in the most prestigious category since 2009. The award is decided by the votes of millions of travelers. A Cathay Pacific delegation received the prize from CNN's Jim Boulden."Of all the sellers, Cathay were the best performers across all types of travel. Some airliners were very good in economy, others in luxury, but they were top or near the top in all categories", Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, told CNN. Speaking ahead of the show, Cathay Pacific chairman John Slosar expressed his confidence,
stating: "I believe that the Cathay Pacific team is the best and it is fantastic to see that our passengers see it the same way. "I would certainly like to congratulate our cabin crew and everyone else in the Cathay Pacific team who make our award-winning service happen each and every day."World Airline Awards Surprisingly there are no American or British airlines in the Top 10.

Cathay Pacific has won world airline of the year several times. The Hong Kong-based airline lives up to its reputation with its scrumptious meals and comfortable seats across classes.

Airline of the Year 2014

1. Cathay Pacific

Based out of Doha, Qatar's national airline won second place in this year's World Airline Awards. The airline is known for its friendly cabin crew, impressive entertainment systems and cosy seats.

2. Qatar Airways

Singapore Airlines took third place. The airline's economy seats are designed so that when you recline, you don't take up much space for the person behind you. Passengers also get individual reading lamps and in-seat power supply.

3. Singapore Airlines

Emirates slipped from first to fourth place in this year's airline awards. With a solid reputation for luxury and comfort, the airline provides amenities such as first class bathroom and shower fittings as shown here.

4. Emirates

With a fleet of 256 aircraft, Turkish Airlines is set to fly 60 million passengers this year thanks to a boost in trade and travel between Africa, Europe and Asia. Living up to its Turkish hospitality, the airline took fifth place in the World Airline Awards this year.

5. Turkish Airlines

First class seats on Japan's Nippon Airways provide closed off spaces for undisturbed relaxation. The airline took sixth place in this year's awards.

6. ANA All Nippon Airways

Garuda Indonesia scored eighth place in this year's awards. The airline has become an established brand for world class travel.

7. Garuda Indonesia

South-Korean based Asiana airlines has a five star rating and has maintained sky high standards since its inception 26 years ago. The airline was awarded eighth place. 

8. Asiana Airlines

Comfortable with stylish fittings, Etihad airways offer business class seating to make you feel at home. The airline took 9th place in this year's World Airline Awards.

9. Etihad Airways

Lufthansa took 10th place in this year's World Airline Awards. The airline is known for providing sleek economy seating with ample legroom.
