President Jonathan finally meets Relatives of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram 100 days ago on Tuesday for the first time since the girls were seized. Some of the schoolgirls, who escaped from the terrorists, are also at the meeting, which is holding behind closed doors at the banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Also in attendance are Governors Kashim Shettima and Isa Yuguda of Borno and Bauchi
states, respectively, service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl-child education campaigner, had visited Jonathan on July 14 and urged him to meet with the girls’ parents. The president had acceded to her request and President Jonathan meeting with the chibok families was scheduled for 4 p.m. the next day, but it was cancelled after the parents failed to turn up. However, Jonathan, according to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr Doyin Okupe, directed that a letter of invitation be sent to the parents for Tuesday’s meeting.
