Fela Anikulapo' spirit still very much lives on.Since the Abami Eda's death,there has been numerous ways his sould and music has been kept alive.There was the "Fela broadway show",There are Fela,s sons,there are numerous Fela fans all over the world playing Afro Beats,there are the new generation artists in Nigeria who mention Fela Kuti's name at every opportunity and most all Fela the man himself lives on in our minds.
Finding Fela, a documentary by Alex Gibney on the life and musical evolution of iconic "Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti " is the latest honor bestowed upon the man.
Finding Fela explores the essence of the Afrobeat founder - his brazen activism, his relationships, his eccentricities and his vulnerabilities. Featuring interviews from family, friends and band members, the scenes are alternately hilarious and poignant, painting a picture of the forces that influenced the musician, and his influence on the Nigerian public of the 70s until his death and even afterwards.
The documentary also features cuts from the broadway play and explores the difficulties in portraying the complex figure that was Fela.
Finding Fela will be in theaters in the US August 1, 2014
