Govt asked to return Sanusi’s Passport, Pay Him N50m & Tender A Public Apology! But WHY N50m damages?what damages?
I can understand the federal high court asking the Govt to tender a public apology,pay the costs of Sanusi and maybe give him a couple of millions for damages.But why N50M? What exactly are the damages that were incurred for the court to award such a sum? It just shows how there is so much injustice and inconsistency in this country.You have civil citizens who were killed due to the negligence of the government during the immigration recruitment.Not a penny has been paid to their families in compensation...the President instead said family members will be given jobs..and i bet you if there was to be a compensation at all,it would probably be a million Naira or less to each families...hundreds of families have lost loved ones to Boko
Haram..no compensation,but then Sanusi is detained for a couple of hours or so,not mistreated not man handled..and he gets N50m? Crazy..just crazy.
The Federal High court in Lagos today has declared the seizure of suspended CBN Governor, Mr Lamido Sanusi’s passport unlawful. The court asked the Federal Government to return the document and tender a public apology to Sanusi, stressing that the intelligence agents broke the law when they seized his passport. It also asked that N50m be paid to him for damages.
The court further restrained the Federal Government through its agents or representatives from arresting and detaining Mr Sanusi without following due process of law, and restrained the government from interfering with Mr Sanusi’s freedom of movement.
