Idi Amin Dada and Mobutu Sese Seko, two Names not to be forgotten in Africa or the world as whole in a hurry. These men terrorized their countries killing thousands.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. As any student of political science will testify, this is a popular quotation by the renowned French political analyst Baron de Montesquieu. Power, for most people is a means to an end and is often utilized to maximum advantageous effect. Perhaps there are none who best epitomize this position than these 2 men.
Idi Amin Dada a boxer, soldier and eventual president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979 was a
man totally immersed in the trappings of power so much so that he declared himself ''life president'', an appointment he claimed came from ''God'', as well as pouring on himself a myriad of unscrupulous titles like MC, DSO, CBE, Conqueror Of The British Empire. I also hear he declared himself, The last king of Scotland.
Joseph Desire Mobutu seized power as a young sergeant in the Congolese army in a bloody coup and apart from changing the name of the country to Zaire, he became even richer than the country itself and to further enhance his position as a revolutionary leader rechristened himself "Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga", meaning ''The warrior who conquers and conquers''. Well.......... reality set in after 31 years.
Yes, Power can be a disease.
