NDLEA and Davido.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are investigating Nigerian singer, Davido for promoting hard drugs in his new music video"Fans Mi" performed with with American Meek Mill .In the video,Davido was engaging in a drugs deal with lots of dollars.
Speaking on the decision to put Davido under investigation, NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju said in a mail exchange with Sunday Telegraph, “The agency considers the musical video ‘Fans Mi’ inappropriate and indecent. It has the tendency to negatively
influence and induce drug use and trafficking. Besides, it is counter-productive on the campaign against drug production, trafficking and abuse. The agency is investigating the matter and will take necessary action".

The NDLEA further on said,if arrested and convicted ,this may be the end of Davido's career.
I think this is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard! Personally,i am not a fan of the Fans Mi video or song. But art is art.I don't see the authorities going to arrest people who shoot kidnapping movies or people who murder or rape in Nollywood movies,so why should they even be contemplating arresting Davido for his video? This Nigerian authorities always leave leprosy to cure ringworms,i don't see them going after the kidnappers, terrorists, rapists and real drug barons that are plaguing society. But they want some cheap publicity going for Davido and his Fans Mi video.
Are the NDLEA right to investigate Davido for use of drugs in his video or should art be art? |
In the Fans Mi video which Davido shot with Meek Mill, they made it clear in the video that the cocaine was nothing but ground rice or yam flower..i'm not sure which exactly, but you get the idea.
Besides, the video was shot outside of Nigeria,so lets assume it truly is a crime, but the crime was not committed in Nigeria's jurisdiction..so how can they arrest and prosecute Davido? They just wanna scare the poor boy..Like i said,i'm not a fan of the said video, but they can't twist the law to suit them.Maybe the boys from the NDLEA want some goodies.
